Liberian English

One nice thing about serving in Liberia is that I don't have to worry about learning a second language. Even though English is Liberia's official language, Liberians speak English with their own style and modifications. And sometimes it's too the point that I don't understand it easily. So here are some examples of Liberian English phrases, vocabulary, and pronunciations.

Greetings
"How de boday?"
"How lay day?"
"De boday fine-o." or "De boday bad-o."
"I try in small-small." -- I'm so-so.

People
pa pay -- old man (very respectful)
o ma -- old woman (very respectful)
ba -- friend
pekin -- boy

Useful Phrases
"Don't eat my eyeball." -- Don't rip me off/charge me too much.
"My jew" -- my jewel, my girl, my darling
"My pot not boil" -- Things aren't going well for me.
